An Artful Display

Before – Barrington Basement Library Nook

Accessorizing bookshelves can be very tricky. It’s all about balance, symmetry, visual weight, and creativity.

This client owns a large collection of books, but simply placing them on the shelf like a library did not make for a very interesting display. The goal was to make this space tell a story about the family.

By working in some of this client’s existing treasured pieces, newly purchased items, and several of their book collections, we were able to create a display that is very pleasing to the eye as well as special to the homeowners. While perusing the interesting objects, photos, and books, one can really gain an understanding about the beautiful family who lives here. After all, isn’t that what we all want for our homes?

Custom vs. Store Bought Drapery Panels

Custom window treatments are a lifesaver for many rooms. Sure, you can go to your local home decorating store and find something off the shelf, but it won’t make much of a design statement. Going custom allows you to pick a fabric that ties the room together, specify just the right fullness and length, and choose from many different pleat styles. If cost is a concern, I can help you select a more budget friendly fabric.

Take a moment to compare the two pictures below. This is the same window, but we gave the room a makeover and had these drapes made to complete the look. What a difference custom makes!

Custom Draperies - These window treatments make a design statement and pull the room together.

Bye Bye Holiday Decor, Hello Barren Rooms

Now that all of your holiday decorations are packed away, does your home feel sparse? If so, it may be time to add some new accessories or rearrange existing ones. Incorporating a new area rug, adding a tray with skillfully arranged items, or even something as simple as just the right throw pillows can make a big difference in a space.

Accessorizing is an art that some people have a gift for while others struggle with how to make all those special pieces work well together. Be bold and try something new. For added inspiration, take a look at the pictures on our Interior Design Portfolio page. Benjamin Moore’s 2016 Color of the Year

Benjamin Moore has announced it’s 2016 color of the year. And the winner is…Simply White (OC-116). I love using this color for trim, but it can be equally beautiful on the wall. Providing a clean, neutral backdrop it can result in either a serene feel or the perfect understatement to allow pops of color to take center stage.

Living Room Redesign for Busy Family in Cary

Living Room Interior Design in Arlington Heights

Living Room Interior Design in Cary

This busy Cary family needed a makeover for their living room with space to entertain and relax. I used a neutral palatte and brought in some modern accents with artwork and mercury glass that give a light and airy feel. https://kellybraschinteriors.com/hawthorne-woods-il-interior-design/
